Duran Henry is a Northern Tutchone First Nations citizen and a member of the Crow clan. Duran lives and works in Whitehorse, Yukon. Duran comes from a highly creative Yukon family. He works mainly in wood and creates his own designs that are both traditional and original.
The tradition of making masks came to the Yukon mainly through the Tlingit First Nation, they usually represent a mixing of ancestor and animal, supernatural and human. This blending of worlds while at the same time concealing the individual is an important part of First Nation festivities and ceremonies, the only times the mask would be worn.
