Handmade in Talojuaq, Nunavut
These soft sculptures originated in Talojuaq (Formally Spence Bay) in the 1970s. These wool-duffel packing dolls are usually based on arctic animal and dressed in an “amauti” (parka). A corresponding baby animal is carried in the back of the parka, in the traditional style. This is the origin of the term "packing" doll.
