  • Raven's are important creatures to Yukon First Nation's. Raven is a trickster who brought the sun to earth, and therefore created life. This elegant mask is inlaid with abalone shell and is beautifully painted on carved birch wood. The tradition of making masks came to the Yukon mainly through the Tlingit First Nation, they usually represent a mixing of ancestor and animal, supernatural and human. This blending of worlds while at the same time concealing the individual is an important part of First Nation festivities and ceremonies, the only times the mask would be worn.
