Native of Germany, Thor Flender came to the Yukon in 2002. Here he paddled the Northern rivers as a guide and flew airplanes in breathtaking Kluane National Park and into the historical Klondike gold fields as a commercial pilot. His passion for flying began as a teenager and he earned his pilot's wings at the tender age of 18. With his Super Cub he keeps exploring the back country, never get- ting tired of its rugged splendor. Trained as an architect, Thor has been practicing architecture across Canada's North for the past 20 years. He loves the artistic ele- ments of his profession, and this has reignited his passion for artistic drawing. For his aviation and other mainly transportation based compositions he blends a loose pen and ink technique with atmospheric water colour washes. He hopes these images will communi- cate his love for the Yukon nistory and its wild open spaces!
